O’Herlihy’s Jai House Is Architectural Gem

Jai House (pronounced “jaw”) an iconic architectural one-of-a kind home designed by renowned architect Lorcan O’Herlihy and winner of the AIA House of The Year Award, has come on the market for $2.95 million.

On Mulholland Highway in Calabassas, the home sits on three acres in Malibu Canyon. “This is a very unique home and sacred sanctuary, with massive mountain views that bring nature into every room,” said Scott Patterson of Nourmand & Associates who has had the listing since Tuesday. “The pure design nestled in the mountains brings a peace and tranquility wherever you look.”

Fifteen minutes from either PCH or Highway 101, the 4,500-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bath home has a 25-yard lap pool and even a yoga room

The home has graced the covers of countless magazines including Architectural Record, Robb Report, Italian Vogue and British GQ.

Legendary architectural photographer Julius Shulman (subject of a recent Getty Museum exhibition) shot the home for the German magazine Hauser. Included in the “Hauser 10” the home was compared to the Pierre Koenig Case Study House—the most famous house in Los Angeles.

The new owners will find the home is also a source of added revenue as it is coveted by the commercial, film and the fashion industries as a premier location rental.

It was used by FHM for a Pamela Anderson shoot, Self Magazine for a Drew Barrymore feature and and by Maxim (with Kristen Bell)

Virtually every car brand has shot spots at the home including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Cadillac, Nissan, Chevy, Mercury, Volkswagen and Toyota

Burger King, Old Navy and Skyy 90 have also used the site.

The owners, an “extreme” athlete (“beyond Iron Man,” says Patterson) and his wife, who worked closely with the architect, are happy to share their family home he says. “They live a healthy vegan lifestyle and with its peaceful combination of light, water and the elements, the home reflects that.”
